Fees & Appointments

Clear, transparent fees for considered clinical care

Sanctum Psychology provides structured, evidence-based psychological services tailored to the individual. Fees reflect the time, expertise, preparation, and level of care involved in delivering thorough, high-quality clinical work.

Private appointments are available. Medicare rebates may apply for eligible individual therapy sessions with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP.

Initial Consultation and Extended Therapy Sessions

The initial consultation is an extended session designed to develop a clear understanding of your history, current concerns, goals, treatment needs, and current level of symptom severity and day-to-day functioning.

This session allows for:

  • A thorough initial clinical assessment
  • Assessment of current symptom severity, functioning, and support needs
  • Identification of key patterns, triggers, strengths, and contributing factors
  • Development of a collaborative case formulation to guide therapy
  • Clarification of treatment goals and priorities
  • Development of a structured, purposeful treatment direction

This helps ensure that ongoing therapy is purposeful, efficient, and tailored to your specific needs.

Extended 90-minute sessions may also be recommended for deeper therapeutic work, particularly trauma-focused therapy such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Longer sessions allow more time for preparation, processing, integration, and stabilisation within a contained therapeutic structure.

Note: A Medicare rebate may apply with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Ongoing Individual Therapy

Following the initial consultation, ongoing individual therapy sessions provide structured support to work toward your treatment goals over time. Sessions are tailored to your needs and may focus on building insight, developing practical coping strategies, processing difficult experiences, improving emotional regulation, changing unhelpful patterns, and supporting meaningful life changes.

Therapy is collaborative, purposeful, and paced according to your goals, readiness, and clinical needs.

Note: A GP referral is not required to attend privately. Medicare rebates are only available with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy at Sanctum Psychology is structured, focused, and depth-oriented. Sessions are designed to provide enough time to understand both partners’ perspectives, identify recurring relationship patterns, and work toward practical change without rushing the process.

The approach draws from the Gottman Method, attachment-informed work, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and individual-pattern focused approaches. This allows therapy to address both the practical aspects of communication and conflict, as well as the deeper emotional patterns that often sit beneath repeated disconnection.

Sessions may focus on:

  • Understanding recurring conflict cycles
  • Improving communication and emotional safety
  • Rebuilding trust, repair, and connection
  • Strengthening friendship, intimacy, and shared meaning
  • Navigating life transitions, parenting stress, grief, betrayal, or disconnection
  • Clarifying relationship direction and future decisions

The 90-minute format is recommended for couples therapy as it allows sufficient time for both partners to be heard, for patterns to be explored, and for meaningful therapeutic work to occur within a contained session structure.

Important note: Couples therapy is privately billed and is not eligible for Medicare rebates. Make enquiries to your private health insurance to see if coverage is available.

Comprehensive Psychological Assessment

Fee: $4,400 including GST

Comprehensive psychological assessment is available for clients requiring a detailed evaluation of mental health, personality, trauma, emotional functioning, diagnostic complexity and functional capacity.

This type of assessment may be appropriate when there is a need to clarify complex diagnostic questions, understand longstanding emotional, personality or interpersonal patterns, assess the psychological impact of workplace stress or psychological injury, or provide a detailed clinical opinion for significant workplace, insurance, medical, legal or administrative decision-making contexts.

The assessment process is tailored to the referral question and may include clinical interview, psychosocial and developmental history, review of relevant documentation, collateral information where appropriate, and standardised psychological testing. Measures may examine mood, anxiety, trauma, personality functioning, cognitive functioning, neurodevelopmental factors, memory, emotional regulation, and functional impact, depending on the purpose of the assessment.

The outcome is a comprehensive written report that provides diagnostic formulation, interpretation of test findings, functional implications, and practical recommendations. Reports are designed to provide clinical clarity, depth, and useful direction for treatment planning, workplace or medical decision-making, and other relevant support pathways.

What’s included:

  • Clinical interviews
  • Developmental and psychosocial history where relevant
  • Review of relevant background information
  • Standardised psychological testing
  • Collateral information where appropriate
  • Scoring, interpretation and diagnostic formulation
  • Assessment of functional implications
  • Comprehensive written report
  • Feedback session
  • Practical recommendations

The final scope of the assessment is confirmed before commencement. Additional fees may apply where extensive document review, supplementary reporting, liaison with third parties, or court attendance is required.

WPATH Assessment Letters

Fee: Assessment sessions are billed at the standard psychology rate. Medicare rebates may apply to eligible psychological treatment sessions with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan. Readiness letters and report preparation are privately billed.

Sanctum Psychology provides WPATH-informed psychological assessment and documentation for clients seeking support with a specialist gender-affirming medical or surgical pathway.

The process is respectful, affirming, and clinically structured. The purpose is not to question a person’s identity, but to ensure that the assessment is thoughtful, transparent, and clinically appropriate for the requirements of the treating medical or surgical team.

This process usually begins with a 90-minute initial appointment, followed by a minimum of six sessions in total. Where the presentation is more complex, or where additional history, support planning, trauma assessment, risk assessment, or documentation is required, up to ten sessions may be recommended before a readiness letter is completed.

Sessions may include discussion of personal history, gender history, current wellbeing, decision-making capacity, expectations of the proposed intervention, understanding of risks and recovery, support systems, mental health history, and any factors relevant to safe and informed care.

Readiness documentation is prepared carefully and billed separately.

The aim is to provide a clear, respectful, and clinically considered process that supports clients to move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and appropriate documentation.

Payment policy for Appointments

Payment is required at the time of appointment via EFTPOS, online payment platform (Halaxy), or direct deposit where arranged (OSKO). Subsequent appointments cannot be booked or confirmed until payment has been received for the current session.

Appointments cancelled within 48 hours incur the full session fee. This policy applies to individual therapy, extended sessions, couples therapy, and all assessment appointments. Medicare rebates are not available for cancelled or missed appointments.

A GP referral is not required to attend privately. Where a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan has been provided, Medicare rebates may apply for eligible individual therapy sessions, extended therapy sessions, and WPATH assessment sessions where clinically appropriate. Sanctum Psychology can process eligible Medicare rebates on your behalf.

Please note that Medicare rebates do not apply to couples therapy or most formal psychological assessment packages.

Assessment Bookings Policy

This policy ensures that each assessment is conducted with the preparation, time, and care required for accurate, meaningful, and clinically useful outcomes.

Assessment services require significant preparation, administration, clinical review, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and allocation of dedicated appointment time.

To ensure quality and availability:

  • Full payment is required before assessment dates are booked and before the assessment process commences
  • Assessment bookings are confirmed once payment is received
  • Once the assessment process has commenced, fees are non-refundable
  • The assessment process may include questionnaire distribution, file review, preparation, clinical interview, testing, scoring, interpretation, feedback, or report writing

Rescheduling:

Where possible, appointment times may be rescheduled with sufficient notice prior to commencement of the assessment process.
